Muay Thai
Muay Thai, or "the Art of Eight Limbs," is a discipline that originated in Thailand. Its roots can be traced to the late 1700s. Developed during the Burmese-Siamese wars for use by Thai soldiers on the battlefield, Muay Thai is a striking art performed while standing that incorporates punches, knees, elbows, kicks, foot sweeps, and throws. By the 1970s, it began to transition from an obscure art known only in Asia to becoming more established in the West.
There is a strong cultural component to Muay Thai: students learn traditional Thai greetings and terminology, as many techniques are taught using their original Thai names. Students also learn how to perform the Wai Kru and Ram Muay, ceremonial dances intended to show gratitude, demonstrate respect, and focus the mind.
In our school, students will learn the full breadth of Muay Thai, mastering the traditions and skills that encompass the art.
